To convert existing unused roof space into a habitable double bedroom with storage area to house hot water supply cylinder. This includes an open plan spiralling staircase that isn’t supported from below.
The Solution
Working alongside our structural engineer we decided to use a steel beam to cantilever the staircase over the wall. We met with the building inspectors to discuss the open plan layout and came up with a plan for a means of escape, fire doors, and smoke alarms to meet the required regulations.
The Result
The steel beam to cantilever the staircase was installed as well as new structural floor, and roof windows to the front and rear. All relevant insulation and sound proofing was designed to meet building regulations. Our joiners built out the eves to the customer's specifications with exposed shelves and built-in cupboards. The end result was a fully equipped double bedroom, storage room, and staircase in an open plan house that needed another bedroom.
